In today’s society the issue of discrimination against whites is being addressed more and being presented in to the public as an issue. According to a study done by Public Religion Research Institute the results showed that 43% of Americans think discrimination is a problem for whites as much as any other race. Half (50%) of white Americans agree that discrimination against whites has become as big a problem today as discrimination against blacks and other minorities, while fewer than three in ten Hispanic (29%) and black Americans (25%) agree,” reads the report (Fatzick 2015). With everything going on in the media today especially with the “BlackLives Matter” movement I truly believe discrimination against white race is more popular than ever. If a white persons uses a racial slur towards a person of another race they are criticized which is fare but if an African American uses a racial slur towards a white person it isn’t a big deal. When you turn on the news they are always broadcasting when a black person is killed by a white police officer or a white person and it is labeled a hate crime. When it is black person who commits these crimes against a white person it is rarely shown or never labeled a hate crime. All around the world people of all races kill each other, but is usually only labeled a hate crime when it is committed by the white race. Another example of this is the debate and boycott that is going on with the Oscars. African American actors and actresses are boycotting the awards ceremony because there were no African American nominees in the main category of the night. People are claiming that the Oscars are too white and the nominees are not fairly picked. Once a year on the BET channel which is an all-black network they have an award ceremony and not one nominee is white. There is never a debate or any issue with their award ceremony so the fact that there is an issue with the Oscars shows the double
