“Persons with disabilities are stared at, whispered about, even laughed at. People shout at them, talk down to them, or - what is even worse - ignore them” (Gilda Berger 5).
People with physical disabilities are looked at differently than the rest of the population. For example, sometimes when a person with a physical disability is slow due to the issue they’re dealing with, employers or employees get upset with them because the person with the disability isn’t moving quick enough for their preference of work. Therefore, horrible things get said to the person with the disability or they’re even physically hurt.
Disability discrimination occurs when an employer or other entity covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended, or the Rehabilitation Act, as amended, treats a qualified individual with a disability who is an employee or applicant unfavorably because she has a disability.
Sadly enough, a big part of discrimination against people with physical disabilities takes place at school. Children with this type of disability are more likely to be looked at and treated different than those other students. While attending school, disabled children get made fun of quite often. Students laugh or even mock these children with physical disabilities. Although these students may not know what’s happening to them, the people around them do. Young children don 't find anything wrong with mocking disabled children because it makes them look “cool.”
