Discovery Park Challenge

Discovery Park Challenge The Discovery Park Challenge was a very intriguing and difficult challenge. The purpose of the challenge was to make a traveling exhibit for Discovery Park of America. We only had a given amount of time to make it. We had to be very thorough with our description of the project and make a good design with good information in it. Since it was FFA’s 100 year anniversary, we decided that the exhibit should be about pig farming. I learned a lot in the project and it was a very difficult one to finish on time. The engineering design process was applied in the Discovery Park Challenge. First, we had to find a problem, which was to make the design and information of a traveling exhibit for the Discovery Park of America. …show more content…
It was one of the hardest ones and there wasn’t much success. The purpose of it was to make a rover out of the given supplies that could travel the furthest. This would be to show how NASA needs rovers. It also shows the engineering part to make rovers, like the engineers that work on rovers in NASA. The NASA Moon Rover challenge is a good challenge and had many learning experiences in …show more content…
The first step, define the problem, was that we had to make a rover out of the given materials that would travel the furthest. Then, we would establish our design and write it down, second step. After that, we built our rover design the way it said at first, third step. Furthermore, we then tested it and it did not work. Since it did not work, we redesigned it, fourth step. Finally, we presented our results which I think mine and Branson’s rover went two feet and one inch. That proves that we used the engineering design process in this challenge. I learned many things in the NASA Moon Rover Challenge. I learned that sometimes you may have to think outside the box to get something to work very good. I also learned that when something doesn’t work or fails, that you should not give up. You should continue to try and make it better. Another thing that I learned is that if both of the partners work just as hard, then the work will get done quicker and the project will be better. Although, the NASA Moon Rover challenge did have some flaws. I believe that you should not have to make the triangle wheels at first. They will not work and they didn’t work. Another thing is that there should be better material to use for the wheels at least because there was no grip on the floor. I also think that maybe there should have been more materials to work with. However, the NASA Moon Rover Challenge was a good one and I learned many

One of the most remarkable feats of space exploration was the landing of a man on the Moon. On July 16, 1969, NASA launched its famous Saturn V rocket into orbit for a journey across the void of space to Earth’s only natural satellite. A little over a hundred hours after launch, it accomplished what many people considered impossible just a few years ago—a man from Earth walked on the lunar surface. The crew collected rock samples and performed numerous experiments, in the process greatly expanding the databases of knowledge on the Moon…

Despite the hordes of mechanical problems faced in the aftermath of the disaster, both the astronauts and Mission Control were determined to overcome them all. With remarkable brilliance, the scientists at NASA came up with ingenious strategies that saved the lives of the Apollo 13 crew. This story inspires me because it is a tale of people who believed that even the most dire of situations can be conquered if you can work hard and find a creative solution. NASA saw it the same way. Although Apollo 13 never landed on the moon, NASA’s intelligence and nerve was tested by this trial--and they passed the test with flying colors.…

He was the last man to walk on the Moon. Astronaut Eugene Cernan was the commander of Apollo 17 when he became the last man to walk on the moon. On December 11 1972, Cernan navigated the lunar module named Challenger to land on the Valley of Taurus-Littrow on the Moon. At the time, he knew that future moon missions had been cancelled, but when he died in 2017, he still couldn't quite believe that no astronaut had been back.…

I was in cub scouts when I was little and I have a lot of pretty good memories from it. I started cub scouts in 1st grade when I was six years old and was in it until the beginning of third grade when I was eight years old. I was in two different, “packs,” when I was in cub scouts one in Illinois and one in Washington state. In Illinois I was a tiger scout which is also the lowest rank in cub scouts. I competed in my first pine wood derby that year…

I found a short article written by George J. Flynn that was published in the Salem Press Encyclopedia January of this year. I learned a lot that I never knew before! I knew about the so called “space race” but I never knew how long it actually took to get a man on the moon and how many “stages” and trials it took! Before we actually got someone one the moon NASA spent a lot of time making a rocket that would get our astronauts into space. Then from there they set up what I consider mini big missions to see how things would work when they actually got to the moon.…

The film the spider was the captivating story of what is now known as the “lunar race” in which the US was competing against The Soviet Union to put a man on the moon. The film specifically depicts what the struggle and hard work of the engineers whom were chosen by NASA to undertake that task. The first of all the problem shown in the film was figuring out how to bring a man to moon and back. NASA initial idea was Earth Orbit Rendezvous which would require the vessels to have enormous mass and weight. But, Thanks to the cunning of a American engineer the idea of Lunar Orbit Rendezvous which cut the required weight and mass of the vessel extremely.…

An actual lander was not built however a lunar lander was built out of cardboard, plastic, cups, marshmallows, index cards, and straws. With these materials, a replica of a lunar lander was made however with different step process, for example a rectangular cardboard base instead of a circular one. A lunar lander was successfully built and got a chance to improve it. After improving the lunar lander from different perspectives, the main focus arrived to where it had to be tested to see if it was successful in safely transporting astronauts on a rocky surface.…

Then three animals were created by pinching the clay into different sculptures.…
