Discovering the Theme If you are watching a film would you be able to tell the main theme or focus the director had in mind? Directors use a series of tools to help get their point in the movie across. Developing a way to dissect a movie to find the theme or focus, the directors’ goal, and lastly come to a decision on the film, will aid in appreciating films more. While watching Silence of the Lambs it is pretty easy to find the theme of the movie is to catch Buffalo Bill but, strong character placement in the film steals the viewers’ focus. Clarice is introduced to us as the main character with a mysterious backstory. Clarice’s character is unique in the fact that she is not a full FBI agent yet but is brought into analysis Dr. Lecter. This analysis reveals to the viewers’ more information about Clarice’s past and the characters ambitions. The character also has inner turmoil that should have her seeking counselling; this counselling is provided by her dialog with Dr. Lecter. …show more content…
The character Clarice provides insight into moral human nature as seen in the beginning clips where she tells why she joined the FBI, which was to make her father proud of whom she deeply admired. We also learn through conversation with Dr. Lecter, that Clarice wants to save peoples’ lives in hopes this will silence the sound of the lambs that she was unable to save as a child. Dr. Lecters’ character brings a uniqueness and complexity to the film. Dr. Lecter analyses the main character and keeps with the main focus of the movie catching Buffalo Bill. Dr. Lecters’ role makes the main character think thru complex clues that she normally would not be looking at. Dr. Lecter introduces the idea that serial killers are all alike and you just need how to interrupt the clues they leave to find
