His book, Discover Your Inner Economist, has a focal point of self-awareness and how one can use it to their advantage. Within the book, he takes a wide variety of economic topics and presents them in an applicable fashion for one’s life elsewhere. This type of thinking is mimicked in his essay; in that, one’s perspective is relative to the limits he or she puts on their own mind.
It seems as if Cowen came into this way of thinking through selective education and well-chosen life colleagues. He hosts a podcast with one of his colleagues, which seemingly entails open-minded discussions regarding their field of economics. All in all, as a highly respected man in his field, Cowen presents great viewpoints of his world in his short essay. With that, one could only assume that his books are fantastic.

As for new policies, in terms of philanthropic ventures, new tax breaks could become applicable to those whom participated. Or, for those whom are not as financially fortunate, philanthropic ventures would be more heavily funded by government institutions if rightfully presented. Another policy, even though it sounds like a utopian idea, would be the implementation of a universal basic income. With this world view, it seems as if that would not be out of question if the organized correctly. In Paul Hyman’s article, “Baby Boomers: Every Silver Lining Has a Touch of Grey,” the author takes a look at how baby boomers will work longer than they expected before retiring. Although, some baby boomers are wealthy, there are many who cannot afford to retire at the most common age of sixty-five. In this article, he also explains how baby boomers want businesses to market towards their age group if the company plans on them buying from them. Hegel’s idea that the modern world of civil society is created through selfish ends and a system of complete interdependence is an idea that is shared with many other writers. Specifically, the 18th century writers of Steuart and Smith share Hagel’s point of view. Both Steuart and Smith believe self-interest is essential in explaining the creation of the modern world. They agree that when individuals peruse their selfish interests and in turn, become dependent in one another, and consequently create the modern economy. However, they differ in the nature of how these two principles interplay in economic activity (production and exchange).…

Through years of hard work and determination he had finally become an established member of society when he started his Carnegie Steel Company. After attaining his massive wealth he published an essay in regards to the wealthy’s treatment of the laissez-faire, concerned about social and economic ideas of those who were not as well off as them. Democracy for Sale Five years ago Citizens United spearheaded a campaign to steal the people's power and unfortunately the Supreme Court decided to rule in favor of the controversial right-wing group, in the devastating ruling of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. This disastrous move by the "Supreme Court scrapped the previous campaign finance laws and essentially declared that companies are allowed to buy politicians by circumventing restrictions via PACs, political action committees" (Tedford), thus stealing the power of the masses and giving our power to those whose bank accounts resemble that of a country's population. Sadly, the affluent 1% of Americans hold more power than the other 99% of this nation because of the current government's pay to win democracy. Without any…

In the Gilded Age many people used greed to their advantage of becoming well known and wealthy. The definition of greed is the selfish desire for something, especially wealth and power. To the more fortunate, greed was a great thing because they kept gaining power from what they were doing, but to the less fortunate greed was seen as an awful thing because it gave them nothing to benefit from. Some people during this time that were seen as greedy would often give back to the community what they had taken away from it after they had passed.
