Nurse Kimbell loved to gossip. It didn’t matter who or what the information was about, but if Nurse Kimbell heard it then the rest of the occupants were sure as shit going to hear about it too.
“Greg wouldn’t stop huffing about it all morning. I thought he’d be used to it by now, that daughter of his hasn’t listen to a work he said since she was ten apparently.” The towel pulled at what was left of his hair, shifting his skin all over his skull. “Though I understand why. A girl her age working in a place like that! Especially after how much Greg worked to get her that education. You’d think she’d be more grateful, put that degree to good use! Don’t you think?”

“You know, my father was an amazing father. Sure he wasn’t around much but back then, hardly any fathers were. He had to work long shifts back to back at the factory just to make ends meet. It was easier once I started working but, as you can probably guess, I didn’t have much free time then for bonding.”
Mindy was picking at her tights, head bowed. Her foot was down, anchoring her to the floor, and she shifted it left and right to make the chair gently swing.
“He’d always greet you with a smile, a hug for Dolly and a hard clap on the shoulder for me. Whenever we had enough loose cash he’d go down to the little shop on the corner and buy Ma something pretty. He liked to see her blush when he held it out like a wedding ring/proposal.
“He’d buy things for us too; sweets, socks, a book for Doll if it’d been a really good week. He never spent money on himself, never drank, he hardly ever smoked. Except on Sundays.
“Sunday was his rest day – God’s day was very important where we lived, everyone went to church and no one did anything that even resembled work. Da would wake us all up, get us dressed, and trudge down to morning mass. Then he would drop us off at home and head to the liqueur store two blocks over.
