1st being the genre of Shonen, which features a male main character and is action based with themes of friendship, teamwork, honor, and duty also sometimes with elements of humor. The 2nd being Shojo, it usually features a female lead character and has themes of romance and interpersonal relationships as its focus. The 3rd being Ecchi, word used to describe a more sexual form of anime or magna that does not show actual intercourse but leaves it to the viewer’s imagination. The 4th being Hentai, (which I’m sure some of you know what that means) a genre featuring sexually explicit material and over sexualized characters and a plot of a heterosexual nature. The 5th being Yuri, dealing with homosexual themes of love, romance and sexuality between women, also known as shojo-ai. The 6th being Yaio, it shows idealized male homosexual relationships usually in an unrealistic and romanticized way with pretty or effeminate men and although gay men do read them, they are actually targeted for women. The 7th one being Bara, it shows more realistic male and homosexual sexual and romantic themes with a more wide variety of male body types shown and is usually more graphic or violent. The 8th being Mecha, it includes a focus in machines especially large robots and mechanical suits of armor that the persons limbs may or may not be extent to the extremities of the mechanical device. It is usually set in an alternate timeline either set in the past or the future and usually shows 19th century ideas of fashion and aesthetics.
