One of the most fundamental theological questions is the definition of discipleship. This essay will provide a summary of New Testament theology of discipleship and although drawing its subject matter from New Testament passages and theologian comment of these passages its intention is to focus not on the narrative regarding Jesus and his disciples but on the theology expressed by Jesus.
Many scholars, such as Wilkins (2010: 159), believe that each Gospel gives a unique account of discipleship and according to Wilkins ‘the central characteristic of the disciple is belief or acceptance of Jesus’ claims vis-á-vis the Father’ (Wilkins, 2010: 212).

Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. (ISV)
The Great Commission
In Luke-Acts, the disciple is participant in a community. The communal nature of discipleship is shown in The Great Commission (1:12-4:22; 4:23-5:42) (Talbert, 1985: 71-72). In the Great Commission Jesus told his disciples to go and make disciples? (Hull, 2007: 25-26)
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matt 28: 18 -20).
Conclusion
Simply, discipleship means learning from and following a teacher. But as has been shown the discipleship that is described in the theology of the New Testament is more complex and involves not only learning but the willingness to leave their former life and follow, to live in a community and to love each other and as the great commissioner

Petra Thanks for your appreciation toward my work. You remark my biblical contribution and many times I analyze the way how God proceed and I am amazed at his wisdom, though he wants many people to become a testimony of his miracles and life on earth sometimes I cannot understand why he chose 12 disciples to follow him and become testimony of what he did on earth, why they were so special if they did not have any background in theology and Jesus was practicing theology since he was 12, besides in the bible sometimes was noticeable the frustration of God when he was preaching and teaching parabolas and they could not understand him. 13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable?…

Christ as the center of human existence means that he is our judgment and justification” (Bonhoeffer, Christ the Center/Christology 60). Now that the truth is in us, it must be shared with all. This is what Roberts calls the Proclaimed Kingdom, for Acts 1:4, 8, says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Jesus commands them to spread his word, to tell all nations about the good news of salvation. Jesus says in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.…

It is a ministry of reconciliation. People who have reconciled with God are able to help others to be reconciled with him so that they may have a personal relationship with God through sincere repentance and faith in God (p.61). In short, discipleship is an encounter with God making Christianity a personal relationship with him. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation".…

Discipleship has tried to be explained for many years and in many ways. It seems a new book on the topic comes out almost every year. Some books try to give new approaches and ways to disciple while others focus on what it means to be a disciple. Every book that I have read on discipleship, no matter what angle they are writing from, is centered on Jesus and how he discipled. The same is true for Bonhoeffer’s book, The Cost of Discipleship, and Eims’ book, The Lost Art of Disciple Making.…

Jesus teachings were most likely in the forms of speeches that would appeal to the imagination or raise thought. Many times He asks questions without giving answer. “He regularly talks about one thing in terms of another – through metaphors, similes analogies, and stories that mean more than they say (Bauckham pg. 57)”.…

The theme of love lies at the heart of the Fourth Gospel, pervading every aspect of the book. The Synoptic Gospels focus on the theme as well, but in John’s Gospel Jesus directs his disciples to love God and their neighbor, based on Deuteronomy 6:4–5 and Leviticus 19:18. In John’s Gospel, Jesus’s only command for his disciples is to love one another (15:12), and he assures the reader that God loves those who keep his commandments (14:21, 23). John points to Jesus’s death as an example of the type of love that Jesus expects his disciples to have (cf. 3:16; 15:13). Love in the Gospel of John argues that to understand John’s concept of love requires understanding more than what Jesus taught in the Gospel.…

According to Matthew 28:19-20, we are to go and make disciples of all nations by using what Jesus had taught them. As Christians, we cannot fulfill this commission if we do not study our faith and know what we are to teach to the world. It is important for Christians to know what they believe in order to defend their faith because if Christians do not fully understand their faith, then it would be impossible to evangelize to people of other religions who are trained to know their own faith. By studying our faith, we can overcome our wrong ideas, we can make better decisions, and it will help us grow as Christians (Grudem 23). Bibliology, Theology, Pneumatology, Christology, and Ecclesiology all…

In the bible Jesus says to his disciple’s in Mark 16:15 “and he said to them, go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature”. What was Jesus saying and why is this verse in the bible taken so literally? In the world today we call it evangelism and many people are participating. The world has had great evangelists in its time such as billy graham who have made known what evangelism really means but people have their own views on what evangelism is depending on their own beliefs systems and religious views. I thought about evangelism from a person’s point of view who never really knew gods intention.…
