Discipleship In A Residence Hall: A Case Study

DISCIPLESHIP ASSISTANT
* What is discipleship in the context of a Residence Hall? In a residence hall, discipleship is the act of mentoring and encouraging one another to reflect more of Jesus. Discipleship is relationships. It happens when small groups are challenging each other, when a DA/PA invites a guy or group of guys to talk over coffee, and when roommates are opens up about their struggles in 2:00 AM conversations. I believe that true discipleship occurs when people who are being discipled begin to disciple others. Apostles did not just follow Jesus around; they built Churches of disciples who then made more disciples. A few PAs and DAs cannot meet the spiritual needs of every guy on the floor, but a floor of disciples who are making disciples will meet the needs of not only the floor, but of other communities around campus.
* In bullet-point format, please describe the role of a DA.
• Setting the spiritual tone of the floor through encouraging, supporting, and challenging the community to deepen their faith on every level
• Organizing and supporting the floor small groups (meetings with leaders, possibly encouraging a theme, etc.)
• Supporting the small group

When group leaders are setting an environment where people feel safe, can be open, and are challenged, this tone will carry over into other parts of floor. I really value the aspect of one-on-one connections and relationships. If I were a DA, I would make it priority to be connecting with my small group leaders not only in a group setting, but also in regular one-on-one connections. This would allow the leaders to receive encouragement, and enable us to look at the big picture where Penthouse’s culture is going. It would also be cool if there was a DA / small group leaders retreat in which the DAs could connect with the leaders and together, pray for and set the overall tone for where we want small groups to

Part One- What were the circumstances surrounding your servant evangelism encounters? I was on an EMS call to a scene of a paraplegic man who wanted to be transported to the hospital to look at a sore that he had. When I arrived on the scene the patient was found lying on the floor shaking because he was so high on drugs. There was drug paraphernalia all over his house and the patient admitted to being on crystal meth at the time that I was there.…

Introduction/ History Remembering one’s history is important in creating a productive and successful future. The Met does just that. During the early 1900s, the founding fathers of the Met experienced financial difficulties. These struggles helped orchestrate a new vision and inspired them to create an innovative PATH (prayer, attendance, tithes and offerings, and hospitable invitation), which continues today with nearly 1,100 members.…

Gay men may have many trust issues even if they do not have HIV/AIDS, but compound the issues with having an illness that has much stigma and revulsion connected to it by the general public can lead to an individual have very little trust of others. Therefore, it is imperative to create a trusting atmosphere within the frame work of the group. The first thing that I would convey is confidence and a true aspect of caring about the group during pregroup and each subsequent group with emphasis during the first meeting, by going over confidentiality, making it clear that group is a safe place to share, informing the members of their rights and responsibilities (keeping what they heard and who they see in group confidential), and priming members for a positive experience. My goal is to be organized, empathetic, and attentive to the individual and group concerns by actively listening. For example; by modeling unconditional positive regard for the participants and by being free to disclose my personal thoughts and feelings in a genuine…

On November 9th, Erin and I co-facilitated a group discussion around trauma-informed practice as part of our Group Facilitation assignment as second-year nursing students. The process consisted of choosing a peer-reviewed article related to trauma-informed practice, then creating a Facilitation Plan around the article and relevant course theory, and finally facilitating a group discussion. As the next step towards the development of our group facilitation skills, we were assigned to write a critical reflection about the experience of facilitating a group discussion. Through this paper I provided a summary of our group facilitation experience, explored group dynamics, what I perceived as our strengths and challenges, what I have learned from…

My main goal is to shape young people into disciples filled with Bible knowledge and to help send them out in the world to witness to the unsaved. I plan to do this by combining the discipleship model and the ministry model talked about by Richard R. Dunn in his book, “Reaching A Generation For Christ”. He states that the philosophy of the discipleship model as, “The discipleship model trains students to be God’s people in an ungodly world, equipped with Bible study and prayer skills developed in a caring atmosphere with a view to reproducing their Christian lives in other” (175). This philosophy would be fulfilled by small groups or “trainings” held on a weekly basis. I would like to keep a very close, relational youth group.…

    1. Camp presents a bold and challenging proposition that Christian’s, especially Americans have missed the mark when it comes to discipleship from Biblical example. He gives a prime example of the Rwandan genocide and how Rwanda was a mostly Christian nation. In this he shows that the “discipleship” process was a failure, and that there must be more to true discipleship. Camp brings across the point that we are to be Christian, first, and then identified with other concepts and attributes later.…

There are many different ways you can prepare for a role play but planning ahead is a huge part of role play. As the disciples were always with Christ, watching, learning and understanding his ministry, so they too could teach as he did. So should we be. We do not always have time as leaders to give individual attention to each person, thus the reason we should always be raising up leaders who will give this care. We must remember that Jesus is the curriculum, our premise from which we live by and teach. Therefore we too should lead as followers, making disciples to the ends of the earth.…

The believer now has the responsibility to serve others within the community of faith. The perfect example of true servant-hood is Christ Himself. He lived a life free from enslaving lusts and instead chose to be a slave to the needs of others. The Holy Spirit is the power behind the believer’s ability to serve and bear fruit. As believers serve one another by being controlled by the Spirit, it will then effect the lives of the other believers, causing them to bear fruit in their own lives.…

Starting off this class with reading what Family Ministry is defined as opened up my view on how Family Ministry can be diverse in a variety of understanding. Diana Garland stated that “family ministry is any activity that directly or indirectly (1) forms families in the congregation community; (2) increases the Christlikeness of the family relationships of Christians; or (3) equips and supports families for the work to which they are called together.” Earlier in the reading she stated that “The flurry of programs called family ministry is the fear that Christian families are falling apart and need churches to strengthen and support them.” Diana Garland’s definition is what I strive for in ministry and I believe that she also is aware…
