Disadvantages Of Vaccination Essay

Vaccines are used to prevent dangerous diseases that can be not only harmful but also deadly. Vaccines have nearly eliminated disease & help prevent outbreaks. “A vaccine is a product that produces immunity from a disease and can be given by mouth, aerosol or needle injection. A vaccination is the injection of a killed or weakened organism that produces immunity in the body against that organism. An immunization is the process of when a person becomes protected from a disease.” (basics, n.d.)
Before any vaccines become licensed they have to pass three phases. In phase one researches test healthy adults and have to see if it works, if it is safe, if there are any side effects, and also if the amount of medicine is related to side effects. Phase two consist of hundreds of healthy people receiving a test vaccine then they have to determine what the short term effects are and how the immune system responds. The third phase is to determine if it is safe, effective, common side effects, and compare the vaccinated with the unvaccinated. The fact that ONE unvaccinated child exposed two children and others but more specifically kids who were not able to have the measles vaccine due to one being too young and the other having cancer is upsetting. Measles is so contagious that it can live in the air and infect someone a couple of hours later. One choice that a parent made for their child has now effected children that did not have that choice because of their circumstances. Now two parents have to watch their infant son as well as young daughter who already has cancer endure so much pain. The worst part is this could have easily been stopped or not as easily contracted if this parent would have simply vaccinated her/his child. (motherjones.com,
