Disadvantages Of Single Parenthood

The family is the basic unit of society. A complete family is composed of a father, a mother, and a child. A parent acts as a guardian, showers children with tender care and guides them in their formative years in life. Parenthood is, of course, no joke because it involves devotion and a lifelong commitment to raise a child and be role models to children in every sense. There are some cases, when a damily does not have a father or a mother, more commonly called as single parenting. It is a more demanding task when the father or mother is a single-parent, acting out dual roles owing to certain factors, such as— but not limited to — the death of his/her partner, separation and unwed parents who bore a child (Kotwal and Prabhakar, 2014). Single parents can be considered as heroes in the strictest sense of the word because they single-handedly take upon themselves the burden of raising their children which entails a lot of sacrifices on their part and requires patience, understanding, love and virtues that will make up to the absence of dual parental care and guidance. It maybe an unusual set-up but it is a situation in which both the single parent and the child/children needs to try their best to understand each other, to have a feeling of co-existence or of mutual existence, where one cannot exist without the other. Single parenthood is not bad in itself. It is a situaton borne out of circumstances, mostly not of one’s liking but the one which both the single parent and child/children need to deal with and live by as if it is life itself. It is something that exists for people to adopt to and become flexible. Having a single parent is better than having no parents at
