Role Modeling
Objective 1: Role modeling will be applied to my course on diabetes. As a healthcare professional and teacher, I can foster a positive learning environment and to motivate my learners. As a facilitator, I can help my learners create connections between the basic biochemistry behind diabetes and its translation to everyday life. I will set an example to by demonstrating desired behaviors that helps reduces the risks of acquiring diabetes. Learners will be able to identify and practice desired behaviors. Through repetition, learners will acquire these skills and behaviors. Moreover, the course aims to help learners become teachers in their local community by setting examples to their peers. First, role modeling aims to provide a positive role model who will help instill appropriate behaviors in learners. Secondly, a positive role model will help students reflect on their lifestyles. Lastly, students will develop their interpersonal skills by modeling effective communication skills with peers who come from various backgrounds. However, there are some disadvantages with role modeling as an instructional method. Unfortunately, an instructor may improperly modeling behaviors to learner and perpetuate unhealthy behaviors. Role playing will help facilitate active learning in learners. By discussing and practicing interpersonal skills, learners will be able to better retain the information and communicate to peers like an instructor communicates to learners.
Q2: Is the learning activity accessible to the learners who have been targeted?
The learning activity is easily accessible to the community. The course will be offered at a local community college with multiple classroom sessions. Many students enrolled at a community college are at least 18 years old.
Q3: Is the method efficient, given the time, energy and resources available in relation to the number of learners the educator is trying to reach?
This method will be efficient because it will not require learners to purchase extra resources. At a community college, learners will be also have computers for research.
Q4: To what extent does the method allow for active participation to accommodate the needs, abilities and style of the
