Due to the negative impact our company has made to the local traffic, I have thoroughly analyzed our workforce's transportation methods and provided potential solutions. I've conducted an employee survey discussing employee carpool habits, public transportation, and telecommunication. Employee Carpool Habits In the following chart, I recorded how many employees carpool and divided the responses into four categories : Every day , Certain days , Randomly , Never . As shown in Figure 1, out of 43,500 employees, more than half the company "never" carpools.…
By the end of the day, the problem might be the cleaning staff or the vacumn train, but “New Yorkers“ are the problem we can’t deny. I barely remember the days without metro system in Taipei. The subway is always crowded at rush hours, people heading to school, heading to work or heading home. Compared to New York Metro, the system in Taipei is really new, it start operating in 1996, according to Taipei’s metro.com the system carries an average of 2.10 million passengers a day from demographics of March 2016.…
For those who are not aware of what Uber is, it is a transportation service that uses technology, such as mobile apps to connect drives with passengers. This is a very popular business in the big cities. With technology becoming more and more prevalent and expanding more then ever this is a great idea. But of course, with every great idea comes competitors seeking to do the same thing but only better.…
Indeed, economic revenue was not the most amazing part Fordism (the assembly line) had brought to the society; expansion of personal mobility was the rosy prospects the assembly brought into the society. Recall from earlier statement, the personal mobility was very low and poor during 1800s-1900s since public transportation was the only reliable transportation method. Within the development of the assembly line, more people and family were able to afford a car and move from one location to the other regardless of a public transit schedule or road restriction due to the distribution of railroad and waterways. As long as roads and highways were constructed (highways were constructed later, after the maturation of automotive industry), people…
The Atlanta streetcar was introduced to Atlanta in December 2014 after phasing out since 1949. The streetcar has twelve initial stops. These stops include stops at Centennial Olympic Park, Carnegie at Spring, Peachtree Center, Woodruff Park, Auburn at Piedmont, Dobbs Plaza, King Historic District, Edgewood at Hilliard, Sweet Auburn Market, Hurt Park, Park Place and Luckie at Cone. The waiting stations consist of a bench that could fit approximately 6 people. The Atlanta streetcar is a great commute option for those who need to get around the downtown area which we all know is extremely busy.…

I have been in the car dozens of times with my grandmother, Nanny Jo, as she likes to be called, and every time she drives, I get this feeling that she shouldn 't be driving. I don 't know what makes me feel that way, maybe it 's the fact that she is 78 years old and can barely see over the steering wheel or that she feels the majority rules of the road do not apply to her. I personally think it is because in 78 years of driving she has never been in a major accident and she feels impervious to accidents. As Nanny Jo has gotten older, my mom and aunt have discussed whether she should be driving. Each time they have come to the same conclusion that although it is a little dangerous for her to drive, the freedom she has to go to the park or visit…
In addition to the weakening of the ozone layer, carbon dioxide and methane gasses also play a role in increasing heat across the globe which results in climate change. Carbon and methane emissions heat up the earth and while the earth begins to heat up, polar ice caps begin to melt. The icecaps release furthermore methane gases into the atmosphere and continue to heat the globe. The melting of the icecaps also results in higher sea levels which in turn harm coral reefs and decrease the land of those who live near costal regions. According to the NRDC, “Sea-level rise can lead to saltwater intrusion into groundwater drinking supplies”.…
The transportation need of older adults in the United States has grown as the population rose by 9.7% between 2000 and 2010 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2013). According to Rosenbloom, many older adults in the United States prefer to drive instead of using public transportation system. According Rosenbloom only eight percent of older adults over the age of 65 uses the transportation system in comparison to sixty percent of older adults in the same age group that drives (2009). Some of the challenges that seniors face when using public transportation is safety concerns. For instance, older adults complain of not having even sidewalks which resulted in injuries from falling (2009).…
Through looking to the population change during this period of time, Toronto CMA seems that will continue to spread out over suburban areas bringing challenges to the city specifically in terms of transportation. Behan states that transportation has encouraged imbalance in sprawl of housing and jobs which result in long commutes, increase of fuel energy and therefore air contamination. In addition, private transportation has become an essential good for residents in suburban areas due to long travels. As people have the needed of using cars, public transportation has been reduced to an ineffective expensive service that uses in vain sorts of energy. Moreover, traffic congestion arises as consequence of the increment of car ownership in suburban…
Transportation is more about than just moving from point A to point B. It is also a system which can limit or expand opportunities available to people based on where they live. America, in spite of being rich and powerful country, often seems falling apart for public transportation. It’s a nation with the huge highways and high dependence on the cars due to the shortage of alternative forms of transportation. The country is spending more on building the airports but has inadequate rail infrastructure.…
Transportation Revolution In the years following the War of 1812 congress began to see a growing necessity for a stronger federal government. Efforts to incorporate this new belief began to unfold as Henry Clay proposed his three-step American System. Aimed towards the nation’s economy, the system included a national bank to foster commerce, a protective tariff to promote the industrial North, and finally a system of transportation intertwined throughout the nation. This American System was put into play and soon the nation took the idea and ran with it.…
A sustainable city is a city designed with consideration of environmental impact, inhabited by people dedicated to minimization of required inputs of energy, waste output of heat, air pollution CO2, methane, and water pollution (A Sustainable City). In a world where society needs to be in constant motion to thrive, energy outputs are high and this equals pollution. There are some cities out there that have decided to look at the idea of reducing their energy outputs or find more efficient ways to create energy. These cities are called: sustainable cities. They are self-sufficient with their usage of energy and attempt to reduce pollution on environment.…
Public transportation is a system of transportation that the government offer for people who cannot use private transportation.
