• Disadvantage and advantages of face-to-face classes: A disadvantage of having class face-to-face is the classes are based on a certain amount of minutes, sometime classes are usually like three hours long. Classes that are about 50 minutes long is a good length of time, but I have had numerous three hour long classes, which is very hard to pay attention and learn significant amounts of information during that time. So much information is presented to the students and most of the information will not make into long-term memory because the information is being presented quickly or one is not paying attention. Personally, I have suffered through long and boring lectures and when I walk out of the room, I don’t recall a single thing, due to lack …show more content…

Also, having class face-to-face helps enhance the material covered and gives students a better understanding of the material being presented. Learning significant amounts of information and cramming all the information, the information will most likely not be stored in long-term memory. Learning significant amounts of information all at once is not as effective as distributing the information, which helps store the information in long term better, distributed practice vs. massed practice. Personally, online classes I have had I don’t remember the information because it is not usually stored in my long-term memory. Another disadvantage for online classes is, one must be self-motivated and have the time for the online class because online classes require a lot of time. If one does not have a lot of time and is a procrastinator they might not be successful. If a person is not motivated to work on the class on their own time, it might negatively affect their grade. An advantage of online classes is it makes it more convenient for people. People can go to an environment that is comfortable and convenient for them to work on the online class/es. If a person is more comfortable they might pay attention better and focus on the class. Also, if a person is normally shy and does not like to participate in class they will feel more comfortable in online class asking questions and being more involved with the

    2) Learning Style Studying in an online college is very different from studying in a traditional college. Self-motivated students and those who have a hectic schedule would do well in an online college, since online colleges allow you to create your own schedule instead of rushing to a classroom at a particular time. Virtual classrooms give students the opportunity to work individually, and with their teachers and classmates. Online students become goal oriented, driven and self-motivated since professors do not spoon feed them. On the other hand, many students enjoy the engaging, personal experience that traditional schooling offers, as well as having a fixed class schedule.…

Again, it’s totally your personal preference on the type of learning environment you prefer. Online course no matter how great the professor, can still sometimes be a hassle if you’re not good in that particular course, and scheduling an appointment can take days (due to the numerous online students he/she already has). As for traditional classroom learning, you are all “hands-on” and can easily ask questions with a direct answer (better understanding). Seeing a professor face to face has great advantages because you’re literally 2 feet from them and you have easy access to ask question after question, or even stay a little longer to get “it” down. Scheduling your classes for online or in classroom can be hard, but one (online) has the advantage to do this in the comfort of your own home at your own pace, and in classroom you will need to make time to go to class (gather…

In his article, “Stop Infantilizing Students,” Wiltold Zombrowski says that parents and teachers should stop treating students as they are infants. In order to encourage students to actually attend classes teachers should stop posting class lessons online. Teacher should also avoid sending out reminders, to teach our students how to become more responsible. Zombrowski’s position is unreasonable and should be opposed. Three reasons why parents and teachers stopping to help out students is a bad idea include the ideas that posting the class lessons online is beneficial in giving students a resources to look at while not in the class room, having in class assignments gives the teacher a chance to know if his or her students actually understand what’s being taught, and if teachers continue to post reminders online about assignments it will ensure students can plan their time more beneficial knowing what is more urgent.…

However, just because we have the access does not mean we will be successful. Like with a traditional class, the work needs to be put into it in order to receive the grade. In an online class it is easy to procrastinate because you physically do not have to get in your car, drive to campus, and sit in a classroom. Not being in a classroom makes it easy to forget about assignments and not participate in class discussions (Nagel et al., 2009). You do not have that teacher in your face reminding you of assignments that need to be done or test that are about to come up.…
