Domestic Violence Disadvantages

In the United States, there are 3 to 4 million families that exist domestic violence, and about 7.5 million children have been affected (Doorways, 2012). Domestic violence is the abusive and threatening behaviors that happened in marriages, families, and other intimate relationships, and it involves physical, emotional and economic violence; the purpose of domestic violence is to control the victims (Chhikara, Jakhar, Malik, Singla & Dhattarwal, 2013). However, domestic violence is illegally even though it happened inside families. Using violence will bring the harmful influence on the whole families, and especially on children. Shattering the silence of violence, providing the shelters for children, and educating parents the disadvantages of domestic violence are the three effective ways to solve it. For one thing, people should not keep silence when they see the violent cases in the surrounding, and break the silence is the valuable way to stop them. According to Unicef (n.d.), the Report of the Independent Expert states that exposing the domestic violence against children is important to let people know that violence is not justifiable. Keeping the silence is going to encourage abusers to continue the violence. However, if the domestic violence is unmasked, the abusers’ violent behavior will be stopped. Therefore, it is very necessary to popularize children the importance of exposing the violence. The parents who abuse their children accept the wrong opinion that violence is not wrong from their families, so they may think violence is normal. Hence, changing their wrong opinion and educating them about the harms of domestic violence are the solution that can prevent it happen. As the solution, government should create an organization that will collect the data of the happened rate of domestic violence, then, informing parents about the harmful effects of it and the importance of a peaceful family by holding some activities, such as lectures and family games. This way is extremely beneficial to reduce the domestic violence, but it also has the difficulty when parents do not want to know because they do not care about children. In the case, the organization should have the right that it can check the family’s situation of domestic violence by knocking
