Sociological theorists believe that a person’s social status within family, academia, and society are determinants of criminal behavior. And we have grown to think, based on statistics that they are apt to become a criminal because of where they are raised and the opportunities that present themselves. Even though we believe that poverty-stricken people commit crime just because they need to, it’s not the sole reason why. More researched reasons that this takes place is that A one-parent household headed by a female is more vulnerable to criminal attack because of the lack of a male presence,criminals see it as an easy target. The poor, and particularly the poor members of racial minorities, are unable to demand as much police protection. Whether we want to believe it or not, the police are more likely to take longer, if they come, responding to calls in high crime parts of the country. According to the Wall Street Journal, Detroit is rated top 3 most dangerous cities and the average response time in Detroit is an abysmal 58 minutes to respond, compared to a national average of 11 minutes. But, it’s the opposite of a ‘waste of time”, graduating from high school or not graduating can make the biggest difference in your life. Out of the males who were jailed in 2006-2007 between the ages of 16-24, high school dropouts were the most likely to go to jail out of every group enlisted. 1 in every 4 black male highschool dropouts will be institulionalized or incarcerated in their lifetime, aso opposed to all other races having a small 1 in 14 chance of going through the same thing. Not only can not finishing high school make you an offender, but it can also make you a victim. As I previoulsy stated, single parent homes headed by females are more likely to be targeted, not finishing high school can make that a reality. According to a NY Times article, females are more likely to become single mothers compared to those who have finished high school. And the most obvious problem that you’re faaced with not completinng hgh school is that you are more likely too become poverty-stricken, leaving yourdself in dangerous and compromising sitautions on the day to day
