This is why students are joined at the hip with their cell phones. I remember the days when a cell phone could only call and text, now you have the world in the palm of your hand. As an honorable high school student, I sat at the front of the class with all eyes on the front ready to learn and yearn for more. Yet, I still couldn’t concentrate with the occasional dings from the back of the class or the “OK Google” app answering questions “Mistakably”. Or the simple fact less than one-quarter of the class understood/mastered the topic for that day due to the …show more content…

In “Save the Earth, Buy Less,” Jared Blumenfeld points out, “Americans have become deeply addicted to consuming. If it’s cool, if it’s trendy, if it’s shiny, we buy it” (par. 6). In today’s brand conscious world, everyone likes to buy new things in order to look modern and more fashioned. In my opinion, this concept is destroying society by increasing: personal debt, poverty, and unemployment. Furthermore, this concept is also time wasting because everyday people go to the stores and they spend hours in there, just searching the products that are on clearance, which they don’t even need.…

One example of this is that even in classes students still attempt to check their electronic devices. Robert Earl of The Atlantic pointed out, “When the teacher is busy helping out another student or writing on the board, out come the phones as students send instant messages to friends, listen to music, or watch videos on the Internet.” In other words, every time an opportunity arrives for pupils to check their cell phones a second thought doesn’t even occur to them about whether they should examine their social media when the teacher is looking away. A better example of this is that students are reluctant to reduce their use of technology; motivation is necessary for both parents and their children to end this habit (Summers, 4). Rosen strongly believes that “device checking is a compulsive behavior that must be managed if young people are to learn and perform at their best” (Paul, 1).…

In another study conducted by the Pew Research center, 71% of teachers agree that due to the excessive amount of technology and increasing classroom sizes resulting from lost jobs, students tend to have a shorter attention span and are less likely to pay attention in class. Having such a large amount of teachers agree is crucial because it shows that technology integration is detrimental to students’ education even through the eyes of those that are usually around and teach the students. Although technology integration can result in teacher layoffs and a decrease in the attention span of students, by incorporating technology into schools students are able to work at their own pace (5).…

Unfortunately, since the technology industry has made the invention of wireless headphones, if people use their cell phones in conjunction with these devices, the radiation dosage can be even greater than normal.
