Minority parties are extremely responsive to the nation’s views and with many parties being in charge, they are more able to represent people’s point of views and what they would like to be changed in the country. Passing bills is definitely a slower process but also, a more effective and efficient process. It is a slower policy making process because this system cannot go ahead based on their own views but are forced to take other opinions from the other parties into account. When deciding on a new policy, there is a lot of parties to show their point of view and all come from different parts of the country so this results in the policy making more representative and has a lot less discrimination. On the other hand, timing for urgent matters is a bit of a downfall as the government parties have to engage in long discussions and debates on the matter which takes up an enormous amount of time. This type of government can cause policy paralysis as there are so many parties with different views and can stop the making of new policies. Usually, minority governments tend to last for only a short period of time which unfortunately sometimes can lead to political parties not being able to fully pursue their desired policies and leaves some work unfinished. I believe this is the best because it has the most benefits to it in regards to fairness and non-biased. The parties get to discuss thoroughly together the bills and with more people in rule in the government, they can weigh out the pros and cons more efficiently and propose any amendments that might be of the people’s interest.
In conclusion, majority, minority and coalition governments all have their benefits and limitations in regards to the policy making process. As discussed above, each type of government system suits different countries. Personally, I do not think that single party governments are very representative for the country but of course, it does have its advantages.
