Disabled American Veterans

External Currents, Trends, and Forces There are quite a few non profit organizations out there that support our American Veterans the main competitors that I found while conducting my research are: Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA). The Wounded Warrior Project’s mission is to honor and empower our wounded warriors. They would like to aid in providing this generation with the most successful and well-adjusted transition of wounded members in the service in the United States history. The Disabled American Veterans or DAV is a not for profit charity providing support of veterans of all generations alongside their families as well aiding over …show more content…

Being established that early on allowed the Legion to find it’s niche plant it’s roots and do nothing but flourish from there. At the local level they have posts, which there are a lot of them throughout every state. A post is the lowest on the totem pole as far as national, state, and local levels are concerned. Posts are established to conduct business matters, raising money, and for hanging out such as a bar. They cover the wartime’s of World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, also the Persian Gulf War and the war on terrorism as well. With being around so long this gives them the edge over any other organization. The Legion provides its members with aid; sometimes a post to hangout at or events to travel to and prosper from, and it is open to the Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard as well as the Marines. With that being said they are a very accepting organization that is allowed to bring on board many members from lots of different

The press portrayed the Vietnam war in a very negative light and this carried over into how the soldiers in the war were perceived. In a way, they were on the opposite of the World War II veterans. However, neither group’s hardships were understood by society. These negative perceptions of the VA do ultimately affect trust in providers and the care that we are able to provide. Online perception and positive, professional presence is important to an organizations brand (Edmiston, 2014). There is nothing wrong with criticizing a partner organization, and constructive dialogue can improve accountability and services. However, there needs to be more cooperation than conflict for organizations that wish to truly work collaboratively as partners. Both the VA and the VFW could likely do more to assist each other in helping our veterans receive the care that they have…

The question being asked of me is “Why Veterans are Important to Our Nation’s History and Future?” Veterans are important to me because I live with two of them and I have a lot of them in my family. Without them, I wouldn’t know the reason why we have people sacrificing themselves for our country. My Grandpa, Roy Noble, always said that “War is not good but fighting for our country is,” I didn’t really understand that until I realized without them we wouldn’t have a free country. Britain would have taken over and we would have a queen instead of a president, or something like that.…

There are many factors that affected the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA); from political, industrial, legal and economics together these external environment factors affected the way that veterans received their services. I will begin to describe how the VA was formed and illustrate how all the factors make what it is called today the Department of Veterans Affairs. The United States has the greatest complete system of assistance for Veterans in the world, this system goes back to 1636, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians. During that time the Pilgrims passed a law that declared that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony. Over one hundred years later, the Continental Congress of 1776 stimulated enlistments during the Revolutionary War, by make available pensions to disabled soldiers.…

One major legislative bill that is very influential in serving veterans, is the GI bill. The GI bill is a benefit that aids service members and veterans in covering the costs associated with getting an education or training. Since the beginning of the vietnam war, the number of homeless veterans expanded dramatically. Thirteen percent of homeless men in the United States are veterans. It is estimated that there are over fifty-thousand homeless veterans on any given night. It is sad too see someone who literally fought and defended our country, and our lives with everything they had living in the streets, dying of hunger. It is mournful to see the government to just thank them with no reward and throw them into the streets like that.…

The Effects of War on Veterans in Afghanistan and Iraq More than half of the 2.6 million Americans dispatched to fight the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq struggle with physical or mental health problems and often begin to feel disconnected from civilian life, deriving from deployment. As stated in the article “After the Wars: A legacy of pain and pride”, written by Rajiv Chandrasekaran and published by The Washington Post. The conditions of being deployed and serving for our country can conclude in widespread consequences within soldiers in which if no help is provided, could become permanently detrimental.
