Disability Simulation
I did the disability simulation to fulfill one of my 6 requirement of the pick 6. I choose to understand students with a physical disability and have to use a wheelchair. I borrowed my mom’s wheelchair one day, not only to do this project, but also because I had to get an injection in my knee for the first time and the doctor hit a nerve and had to do it twice and told me to stay off my foot the rest of the day. It was a challenging experience for me to get around in a wheelchair and do my daily activities. I had to cook dinner for the family. Luckily, my kitchen is right off the living room. I was able to wheel myself into the kitchen and make food. Unfortunately, it had to be food that went in the oven to make it easy. I had to enquire for assistance to turn on the oven. I was able to use a wooden spoon to knock down the oven mitts

Some mobility impairment student’s accommodations could be to let them use a computer with speech input, have the materials in electronic format for the students, have group work assignments in the classroom and extended time to complete exams and assignments in the classroom.
In conclusion, this project made me think of what a student must feel in this situation every day. I think we need to make the student feel included in every way in the classroom. We want the student to feel comfortable coming to school and learning. We need to set the environment to a positive learning experience to fit the individual need to help them accomplish their learning goals. We need to teach all the students to respect and help one another in the

According to the American Community Survey, “The overall rate of people with disabilities in the US population in 2015 was 12.6%” (2).
