The sound of dirt bikes around the gorge was to hard to resist. I whipped out to the garage and gave my bike a quick check, oiled the chain, topped up with fuel, chucked on my riding gear and slipped the garage door open and I was off like rocket. I was racing down the beach and doing heaps of mad as wheelies, some probably being in 3kms or more in length, with mum and dad following in my hilux and my little brother in hot pursuit on his little bike.…

Having eyes frequently glaring at you in fear while walking in the city at night and being constantly chewed out for riding a bicycle by both automobile drivers and pedestrians can cause quite the toll on a human being. These things are the daily occurrences for Brent Staples, an African-American journalist, and an internet blogger, JDOWSETT, who chooses to ride his bike in a predominantly automobile environment. In a world where it seems that society continues to favor those who are privileged, this perpetual belief continues to distort many people from understanding what it’s like to live a not so privileged life, especially how people of color are often negatively viewed at compared with those who are white. The enclosed annotated bibliography represents recent research on the topic of safety in auto racing. I began my research by asking ‘Is NASCAR taking proactive measures to keep its drivers, crew members and fans safe while maintaining its entertainment value?’ In my paper, I will argue yes, NASCAR takes safety seriously while still maintaining fair and entertaining competition.
