• Now, there are a couple of rules we need to discuss before starting our activity.
• 1- Do not eat the crackers until everyone had finished their packet and we’re finished with sharing/ discussing students’ work.
• 2- Please make sure to keep your crackers on your worksheets, as we do not want the crackers to get on the floor, creating a mess for Mr. Miller and the janitors.
• 3- I want one member from your group to get two cups of cheese …show more content…
Why?
• Possible answer response: Yes, solving for the area can be difficult but did you find it easier by using the cheese crackers as square units to help you find the area if you were confused on multiplying the length and the width.
• Possible answer response: Yes, solving for an area can be quite easy when know how to use the measurements of the shape to multiply the length and the width of the shape to find the area. Did you see that by multiplying the length and the width of the shape, you were able to come up with the area quickly?
Will some students be willing to come up to the document camera and explain how they made their shape, and solved for the area?
• Wow, look at that. Can you explain to the class how you made the shape and solved the area for it? How did you come up with the equation for your shape?
• Possible answer response: Thanks for the explanation of how you used the cheese crackers and multiplication to solve for the area.
• Call on 2- 3 more students to show their work to the rest of the class. Get students to share their shape and their explanation of how to solve for the area of their newly made
