Consultation is an integral part of a comprehensive school counseling program and of school counseling services. Consulting is defined by the ASCA (2005) as an indirect service rendered by a school counselor that may empower the school to enhance the services offered to students. Although it is classified as an indirect service, school counselors today must include direct services to improve the achievement of all students. Some examples of consulting services offered are system support, guidance curriculum, and responsive services. As a future school counselor I will be expected to provide all of these consulting services for my students, and develop ways to incorporate them into my school counseling program.
