The question I chose for my Student Inquiry Project is “Could Spider Silk Be Used To Create Military Grade Body Armour”. This is due to the fact that prior to SIP beginning I had been reading up on the strengths and potential uses of spider silk. Once I had decided that I wanted my question to revolve around spider silk, I began further research on the uses of spider silk and found that it varied from medical uses such as artificial skin and bandages to commercial uses such as airbags in cars. The most interesting potential use that I found was in fact body armour, this is due to spider silk being an extremely song substance and if done correctly can be stronger than the current material used to create body armour, Kevlar.…

The hypothesis could be proven. If water is filtered through a pine dowel, then this permeable wood will filter the impurities out of the water through the process of osmosis. The water will pass through leaving the impurities behind. This experiment did prove the hypothesis however, it may have worked better if more time was allowed for most of the water to go completely through the wood, if the wood were less dense, and if the dirt in the water wasn’t so fine. In my experiment I observed that some water and dye did soak completely through the wood, but only a few drops of water came through into the bottom chamber.…
