Dinner At Bar-B-Q House

I didn't really like barbecue, but then again I was only almost 10 and I couldn't drive myself somewhere else to eat. So that night after the movie, I sat alone in the backseat of the car staring out the window, pouting about the restaurant choice my parent's had made and oblivious to the fact that my life was about to change. At the restaurant, my parents sat on one side of the booth and I sat alone on the other. For me it's fuzzy how the conversation started, but it's clear as day as to how it ended. That night at a worn booth in Al and Irene's Bar-B-Q House, my parents told me that I was going to be a big sister. This news would probably be exciting for younger kids to hear, but for me it meant that 10 years of being an only child were now behind me, and boy was I surprised. So surprised and stunned in fact that I started crying. Thoughts and questions flooded my brain at an overwhelming rate. Would my parents and family pay attention to me anymore? Would my little brother or sister like me? Would I even like being a big sister? The world already felt like a huge place to me and now it seemed to be getting even bigger right before my eyes. …show more content…
In all honesty, I enjoyed being an only child. I liked spending a lot of time with my parents. I played with friends at school and neighbor kids. I enjoyed alone time, and yes, I happened to have multiple imaginary friends. For me, not having any siblings was the norm and I was perfectly content.
