Dinky was an elf. As everyone knows there are many kinds of elves. There are shoe elves, cookie elves, and forest elves, and there are Christmas elves.
Dinky was a forest elf. It’s not that he didn’t like being an elf. Dinky, just didn’t want to be a forest elf. For as long as he could remember in his short 12 years of life, Dinky had always wanted to be a Christmas elf.
Wouldn’t it be grand to live at the North Pole with Santa year round and make toys?
Every six years, Santa and DoJo, the leader of the Christmas elves, would have a contest. All elves under the age of 13 who wanted a chance at being a Christmas elf could make a toy and enter the contest. Santa and DoJo would choose who would get to come and live out their lives at the North Pole.

“He sure did,” Boo replied.
“Hey, look,” Tink cried, “There’s a bus full of berries, Boo!”
“But it’s off the path,” Boo exclaimed.
“Not very far,” Tink said. “Come on chicken.” Tink started towards the bush and Boo followed in tow.
Each time the two picked a bush clean, they saw another a little further into the dark forest.
Finally Boo asked, “Where’s the path?” Tink looked around not wanting to worry Boo.
“It’s just over that hill,” Tink said with a shaky voice. “Let’s keep picking.”
An hour later, Tink had to admit they were hopelessly lost. As morning went into late afternoon all the elves were getting ready to head back down the mountain.
Tink and Boo’s mother was searching frantically through the crowd. “Where were they,” she thought as she searched the faces of the elves.
“Have you seen Tink or Boo?” she’d ask. Soon all the elves joined in the search for their friends.
Darkness was coming fast and the mountain was no place for an elf after dark. Soon the tired elves had no choice but to head back down the mountain. Besides the dangers of the mountain, a storm was brewing and it began to
