ISS consists of a conference with all the communities from outside of Israel, a week where the groups live with their partnership group, followed by an international congress where groups from North America, South Africa, Argentina, England, Australia and Israel come together. Of all the incredible parts of the Israel Summer Seminar, the most incredible is the international congress. Upon arrival to this four day congress, it is tradition that every each participant and each staff member is given a bucket hat. The colours of the bucket hats represent your position in Diller.The coordinators, junior staff and participants each get a different colour to identify their position; Coordinators get navy blue, Junior Staff has light blue and participants have white hats. Bucket hats in Diller have become an integral part of the experience. It represents the unification of the Diller program in its entirety and the beginning of the next generation of Jewish peoplehood. The closing ceremony of the international congress includes the traditional Diller “whoosh”, a whoosh is how in Diller, the group thanks people who have come to speak or visit, in order to take all the positive energy they have shared with the group and give it back. This is a universal diller norm, it is expected that every community shows gratitude to those who share knowledge and time with them.
