Many parents who may understand the issue or have experienced firsthand would agree. Media violence does cause children to become more aggressive and violent while others who are probably parents who have not gone through what other parents have or just people who don’t even have parents at all would disagree and say it’s a false claim media violence does not affect children even less with the idea of children becoming more violent or aggressive. The way I decided to write a paper about this came from curiosity, I use to wonder what would make children to become more violent while at the same time I noticed now there are more images of violence on T.V, Movies and video games and with the increase growth of children watching or playing games no a day made me wonder if there was any correlation between the two. And because I want to pursue a career in psychology in helping children and families is what made me become even more with the subject. In this paper, I will be discussing the effects of media and digital violence towards children and how this can affect their future in the long run. This is what we would call relational aggression which has been known to lead to negative consequences for both the victims and the perpetrators an example being the feeling of loneliness, depression, and social isolation. Just the act of watching physical violence on television influences relational and verbal aggression, its especially found with preschoolers, children, teenagers, even adults. A study made in Nigeria about children who watch television experience negative effects especially for the average Nigerian child watching 3-4 hours of television a day, children are vulnerable and cannot distinguish the difference between what is reality and what is fantasy. Another study also done with Nigerian children show how games like mortal combat or Wolfenstain 30 increases a person’s aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, children are most likely to become more aggressive playing with video games because of how interactive games are and how much the game requires the player to sort of connect with its character linking it with an increase of aggressive behavior.
