The Digital Imaging Technician, according to Get in media (2017) is mainly concerned with ensuring the camera manages to attain the desired look expected by the director of photography and the director. In contrast a Data wrangler primarily is in charge of moving data from the camera to storage device to be backed up before proceeding to post-production. The Data Wrangler is responsible for not only the Datacine report but also data back up and quality checking as well and ensuring that all transcoding and proper formatting of capture mediums on set is carried out.

This cart may also be fitted with external storage and backup power supply for shoots in remote regions. The data Wrangler on the other hand, will have their station set up ready to receive footage onto card readers and straight into the drives as stated by Media Match (2015). Both workstations though are set up in dry and safe areas with a stable power source.
A Data Wrangler may also perform the same roles as those of a DIT. This may be the case when only one individual is available to perform both roles. In terms of communication for example, both a DIT as well as a data wrangler communicate with the director of photography, the producer as well as the director, including reporting to them daily with reports and dailies.
In conclusion, A DIT’s role may be more significant than that of the data wrangler as not only can they assume the data wranglers role, but they also carry on with the footage throughout the production
