Digital Footprints Everyone that has used the internet has a digital footprint. That footprint is comprised of passive or active data left behind by users on digital services whether they know it or not or consent. There are two types of digital foot prints, passive and active. These footprints can be created in a variety of ways; through others posting and tagging you in a photo, your mane appearing in an article of a magazine or newspaper, searching or researching information online and this type of digital footprint can even go back to before you were born if your parents were to post about the pregnancy. Another way is through visiting websites, this data is logged through your IP address that will show your internet service provider and the location where you accessed the website. Even though the IP address does not give any personal data, such as social security number, phone number, or race, it is still a part of your digital footprint that can be researched and matched to create a more complete profile. People today shop online, meet people online, bank online and get their new online, so it is no accident that social media is a vital factor in today’s society.
