Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants, By Marc Prensky

In the article called ‘Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants’, the author, Marc Prensky, defines two terms which are the same as the title of this article. People who were born into an environment filled of digital products are called Digital Native. Digital Immigrants are just the opposite to Digital Natives, which includes the rest of people who were not born into the digital world but have access to digital products at some point later in lives. Though these two terms are quite interesting, it seems like these two terms are not defined appropriate. These two terms divide all human into two groups based on the age they were born, which is impossible to include all people or let some people to be put into only one type.

New teachers know the best about the young generation of digital era so that it is their jobs to adjust the out of date education at schools. Here are some detailed ideas about possible education methods for modern time.

First basic step of building new education system for students who are Digital Natives is introducing digital products including both hardware and software into the schools and classes. For example, big screens connected to computers for showing videos and PPT in classes can get rid of the traditional blackboards. Videos often attract students’ attention sooner because they are familiar with videos due to their experience from TV to movies in theaters since they were little. PPT is useful because of various materials that can be involved into it like pictures which can not be shown on a blackboard. Digital Natives prefer studying with graphics because they used to look at photos on phones every day. As for softwares, there are lots of products that can enhance the efficiency of works such as Google Docs. If students submit their papers in Google Docs, the notes, changes and advices can be clearly shown in one file as well as the original texts to make students feel their works being well
