The first thing I think of when I hear the words digital addiction is pornography, but that is not the case for this session. On Friday, September 23, 2016, I attended the pre-conference of Faith and Science at Evangel. It is talking about the biology of sin. I attended a session called “Digital Addiction” by Jeremy Harris and Erica Harris. Digital addiction deals with, the internet, screens, social media, smartphones, etc. This session focused on Smartphones on so many people cannot put their phones down. There is a name for not being able to go without your phone and it is called nomophobia. The behavioral effects are impulse control, learning problems, distraction, compulsive behavior, judgment impairment, and poor concentration. Erica explains and interesting fact which is, "Males putting phones near their reproductive organ reduces their sperm count because of cell phone radiation." The physiological effects are eye strain, neck problems (also know as "text neck"), cell phone radiation, and sleep disruption. It can lower a student 's GPA when studies. Are self-perception is a lot less than actual reality. How to prevent these problems can be fixed by turning off the cell phone and hour before bed, setting a certain time to check your phone, and by engaging in a real human element. Of course, by then they were not referring to it as phones but in this time and age, it would apply to phones. One of the verses that were put up comes from 1 Corinthians 3:16 where it is talking about how our body is a temple. The next verse was from Romans 12:2 and that is talking about conforming to the world. 1 Corinthians 6:12 was mentioned, although it is talking about sexual immorality, it could still be used by not letting your phone control you.
