There are many reasons why so many people are overweight.One reason why the obesity rate has doubled since 1980 is due to high fructose corn syrup which was introduced in the 1970s and is added to a a lot of foods these days. You can find it in cookies, soft drinks, spaghetti sauce, bread and many other common products. Some think high fructose corn syrup is causing the increase of obesity. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health found that rats who are fed high fructose corn syrup gain more weight than rats who are fed table sugar. Another reason people are overweight is because of fast food restaurants.The main cause of obesity is overeating, a person consumes more food than the body can utilize.Obesity is commonly associated with the wealthy members of the society who are the main victims of obesity.Lack of physical exercise is also a leading cause of obesity.
