The study of different types of pilot fuel for biogas run dual fuel diesel engine is of immense importance taking in consideration of recent fuel crisis. The different pilot fuels studied for biogas run dual fuel engine are diesel [1-6], Soybean biodiesel [1], Jatropha biodiesel [3], Palm oil biodiesel [4], Jatropha oil [7] and emulsified biodiesel [8]. Thus, few studies have been reported on biogas dual fuel combustion using biodiesel as pilot fuel. Biodiesel, an environment friendly, alternative, nontoxic, biodegradable and renewable fuel, has a great potential as a renewable fuel for CI engines. It is commonly produced by esterifying or transesterifying the vegetable oils or animal fats with methanol [9]. It can be used directly or mixed with petroleum–diesel in any proportion and directly used in engines with no need of modifications [10]. Its usage reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to mineral diesel. Biodiesel has a relatively high flash point, which makes it safer to handle. It provides good lubricating properties which reduces component wear and enhances engine life. The physical wear of various vital parts and carbon deposits were found to be substantially lower in the case of biodiesel fuelled diesel engine [11]. Biodiesel has higher oxygen content than petroleum diesel and it shows great reductions in carbon, emission of particulate matter, monoxide, polyaromatics, …show more content…
From the literature review, it is quite clear that the performance and emission study on RBB as a pilot fuel in a biogas run dual fuel diesel engine has been reported. Keeping this vista in mind, the main objective of this investigation is to enhance the performance, combustion and emission characteristics a RBB-biogas run dual fuel diesel engine through adjustment of two operating parameters, namely CR and IT. The motivation behind this research work is mainly to improve the performance and lower the emission of carcinogenic gases of the biogas run dual fuel diesel engines which can be used for power generation in rural areas particularly for developing countries. Furthermore, 100% saving of diesel fuel can be achieved by running the diesel engine with biogas and RBB under
