Children and young people can experience different types of bullying. Bullying can happen anywhere, at any time. Bullying can have a serious impact on young people so it is important for me as a teaching assistant to be fully aware of the signs of bullying and report any suspicions I may have to senior staff members.
Physical - This is when a bully pushes, kicks, hits, pinches or spits at another child. They can also threaten another child to make them feel fearful. It happens through the internet via social networking sites, which include facebook, wats app, snap chat and online gaming. This type of bullying is more common in recent times as most children and young people have access to mobile phones and tablets. Children as young as 12 years of age own a mobile phone and some children even younger, leaving them more open to cyber-bullying. Schools put in place guidelines for parents and children to follow so they are aware of the risks of cyber-bullying and how to use the internet safely. Cyber-bully can happen in many ways some of which include; harassment - this is when someone sends offensive, rude and insulting messages to another person, or when people write nasty and abusive comments relating to photos of an individual. Exclusion - this is when a group of children set up a group on wats app and intentionally leave out a particular child. It can also include spreading rumours or gossip about people through social networking sites and these posts can go viral very quickly. This type of bullying can have lasting affects on children, they can be distressed, embarrassed, ashamed and have a fear of been judged by others.
Specific bullying - this is when a child can be bullied because of their race, disability, religion or gender. Children who are often part of a small group can be targeted more easily as they don't have any back up or
