If you have the luxury of picking your moving date, then you should consider the pros and cons of moving during different seasons of the year, especially if you have kids. If you have a sudden life change, such as starting a new job, you may have to move on short notice, but if you know several months in advance when you'll need to move, you have plenty of time to plan so the experience is easier on everyone in your family. Here are some things to consider about moving during different seasons of the year.

The weather is cooler and vacations are usually over by then. An autumn move might present a problem if you have kids in school though. Your kids have to adjust to moving to a new home and starting a new school at the same time, which might be stressful. On the plus side, movers are slower, so it will be easier to book a move on the dates you want.

Moving In The Winter Months

Moving during the winter months could be the best option if saving money is your goal. Winter is the slow season for movers, so there's a good chance you'll find a discount on your move. The downside, of course, is moving during cold temperatures. You may need to take extra precautions with fragile items that could be damaged by freezing temperatures. You'll also need to consider the shorter days due to fewer daylight hours, that might prolong the process of loading and unloading your belongings.

Moving In Spring

Spring might be the best season of all for moving. The weather is not too cold or too hot, and there are longer daylight hours. Plus, the busy season hasn't started yet, so booking a mover should be no problem.
