Medical Social Worker Essay

There are different roles between a School Social Worker and Medical Social Worker. In today’s society there are many issues occurring in the school systems and medical systems that require the attention, assistance and need of social workers. An example in the school would be, children not being able to focus in the classroom, due to issues in their home life environment . In the Medical arena there are abused children being sent the hospital. In today’s society and the era in which we live, children are facing more issues in school and at home with their social, mental and physical health. As the nation’s population of the elderly continues to grow, public health care social workers will be attuned to their direct care needs as well as their health and social polices developed to address those needs(Jurkowski chapter 5). Although the roles of a School Social worker and a Medical Social worker differ they are also similar. Both social workers are similar in that, they both deal with children and adults who have different disability needs. As stated in the handbook for Public Health Social work, despite the progress and growth in disability rights, persons with disabilities continue to experience ongoing stigma (Jurkowski chapter 9). There is a need for differentiated assistance for children in the schools with disabilities, as it pertains to the different skills ,abilities and development levels of each child(Constable 4).
