I remember a time when I felt I had power. It was when I had a task and I was watching over and controlling someone to do it. When people have power they will and can use it in different ways. They have resources, structure, and leadership. In Richard Adams book “Watership Down”, he explains that there are different warrens and they all use different means of power in their warrens. In Hazel’s warren which is run mainly by Hazel who is a male rabbit and Bigwig who is also a male rabbit, they are on the search for a new home. There is also General Woundwort who runs a warren called Efrafa, which mainly wants to keep safe. There power is not harsh or violent in any way, they just want the best for everybody. " No, of course not---but just to show them that their Chief Rabbit was up to anything that they were up to" Page 198. Adams is trying to show that the power is distributed very evenly amongst the rabbits in this warren. " Now you have to hop to the side , then to the other side. scratch with your legs- that's right, splendid- cock your ears and then go straight on- ah! Here we are now and now" Page 345. The author here is trying to pass on that Hazel’s rabbits are very cunning and don’t need all the sentries and guards like Woundwort had and they have more power that Woundwort warren because they have the knowledge and not the strength. It is a different meaning of power then Efrafa has. "Talk broke put all over the Honeycomb. 'That must be right!' 'Who wants to be torn to pieces ?' 'That rabbit with the mutilated ears----' 'Well, but Hazel-ra must know what's doing' 'It's too far.' 'I don't want to go' " Page 254. This entitles that in the Honeycomb even though Hazel is the leader he listens to everyone else’s opinions and doesn’t force decisions. They have many resources and tools that they can use during specific situations. "Then he would have to fight---probably with Woundwort himself; and if Woundwort closed with him and used his weight, he would have little chance." "Look, I'm going to dig myself into the floor of the run just behind this blocked opening. Then you cover me with earth. It won't be noticed there's so much digging and mess in the place already." Page 440 Adams shows that Hazel’s warren uses tricks and knowledge.“‘ Kehaar, he said, “ Bigwig says you told him to you’d come and help us to get the mothers out of the big warren.” “ Ya, ya, I come for you. Meester Pigvig, ‘e need me for ‘elp ‘im. Van ‘e dere, ‘e talk to me, I not rabbit. Ees goot, ya ?” “ Yes, rather.
