In 1.5 Romeo and Juliet share a romantic sonnet together the first time they meet. Romeo shows his romantic affection towards Juliet when saying, “This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this. / My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand / To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss” (1.5.94-96). Stating that Romeo is in love with Juliet furhtermore wanting to kiss her in order to show his desire. Along with the quote, the importance of sharing a sonnet between the two characters is to show that they have a special connection towards one another getting each other so well.
In conclusion, love is shown in different forms throughout the play. Parental, brotherly, and romantic love are only a few of the many types of love that Shakespeare put into Romeo and Juliet. Love is what shapes a character as well as what causes people to use drastic measures in order to show their affection, such as Romeo later killing himself in order to be with Juliet. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Where there is love there is life.” This proves love not only shapes us, but the world around
