Anti-Realism - As it’s not realistically filmed the films using this structure tend to be action or si-fi. It usually is quite surreal which keeps the audience in disbelief. An example of this would be the Mighty Boosh, which is a very surreal and alternative form of anti-realism due to the fact that it is very strange and also quite dream-like. We know this because in one scene the two protagonists are buried to their necks in sand and shots where smoke was coming off one of their heads. This ending doesn’t have a cliff-hanger so the audience will always know how it ends, which most people prefer. However an open ending is when the ending is left quite uncertain and questionable. The audience does not know all of the details and is left to work them out themselves. Some of these endings may lead the audience to think a certain way even if details aren’t told or it isn’t the actual ending whereas others will leave the audience hanging. An example for a closed ending would be Guardians of the Galaxy, where the closed ending shows Starlord/Peter Quill, Rocket (holding Groot) and Drax all strapped into their seats and Gamora stood behind Quill. In this scene Quill has got his ship back and they choose to do something good and bad as their next adventure. This type of structure makes the audience feel accomplished because they know what happens and they know that one story has completely finished, such as the defeat of Ronan. An open ending is mainstream due to the fact that it is the most common ending seen in films and TV shows. With this type of structure, the audience may feel more imaginative by coming up with different meanings of
