Egypt had a social hierarchy where the top of the hierarchy belonged to the royal family. They are the top, therefore got treated better. This is because they are in charge of the country, and as a result get benefits from their power. This impacted the citizens lives in regards to the amount of respect and kindness they received based on their social standing. Mesopotamia is the same, with kings and priests at the top. Mesopotamia had slavery present in their civilization, but not because of race. Mesopotamia and Egypt had slaves that were prisoners of war. They had prisoners of war to show military victory and had them as slaves because it was a way of punishing them but also a way to get work done. This impacted the civilizations because it was a free labor source for the citizens of both civilizations. Both civilizations had commerce, which the exchange of goods and services. In these cases, it was trading. This was important because it allowed civilizations to get items they couldn't get from where they live. This is especially important for Mesopotamia, due to their lack of natural resources from other areas allowed for the growth of civilizations.
