In all cultures, there are certain things that make them significant to others. Such as their foods, clothing, religion and even stories and legends. In this report, I will include two of the stories important to many Hispanics. This will include El Chupacabra and La Llorona. The two stories are really related but are of two very different characters. Of course, till this day there is no full proof or evidence that both of these stories are nonfictional. To start this report I will firstly go over El Chupacabra. El Chupacabra is a fictional character or cryptid that mainly preys on farm animals; such as goats and chickens. This next one is called La Llorona. La Llorona directly translated to English means “the wailing woman”. The story is of a woman that killed her children and realized the crime she committed and later realized how bad the crime was and killed herself. She usually cries out at night by rivers and crossroads. This legend has been described often as a doomed soul that is to wander the Earth forever. Also this legend has been used as a bogeywoman. A bogeyman or bogeywoman has the duty of scaring kids into acting good or the visitation of characters such as La Llorona would be expected(Fuller). In a writing describing La Llorona, she had killed all her children and had two of them left and drowned those two the others were killed in different ways(La Llorona). The name “Maria” was the name given to La Llorona. She was very beautiful and her beauty caught the attention of all in her village both poor and rich. Every evening she wore her best white gown and entertained the men in her village. Maria got married to a very handsome man and had children with him. The man later started indulging in womanizing and drinking. She later saw her husband in a carriage and he ignored her. That resulted in her killing her children and herself.
