Manage Long Term Care Leadership Style

What makes a leader? This is a very good question I always ask myself when I deal with my supervisor. I am a nurse case manager in Manage Long Term Care Company ( MLTC). I have met two supervisors for the past one year after I hired to my current company. There are two different styles of showing their leader skill. In this paper, I would like to talk about my current supervisor, Ms. H. and her improvement during the crisis of my company.
Peter Drucker states, “Leadership is lifting a person’s vision to high sights, the raising of a person’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations.” I totally agree this opinion of leadership. Also I believe that every leader should act the way that Peter

H was totally different. She offered more flexible working schedule for every employee such as offering a fulltime work from home position to current employees, providing extra time off during the overtime period of the crisis due to every employee took a full caseload with the extra caseloads due to shortness of employees. Also, she respected everyone. She talked to every employee privately. She considered every employee’s difference. In addition, she appreciated our hard working. Moreover, she stood up for us even though she didn’t have any experience of home care. Based on Ms. H’s case, I could see the five components of emotion: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skill being showed at her performance. In “What Makes a Leader?”, Daniel Goleman, an American author states, “IQ and technical skills are important, but emotional intelligence is the sine qua non of leadership.” Emotional intelligence is very important for the leaders in performing their leader skills. If my current supervisor did not use the emotional intelligence to solve the problems, I believed every employee did not want to corporate with …show more content…
I don’t think that my supervisor just use one type of leadership to manage our company. Also I believe a good leader should be able to cooperate with every type of leadership in their daily practice. The goal for the leaders is not only limited to life an employee’s vision to high sights, raise their performance to higher level as well as build of a personality beyond their limitation, also it should solve the problem that company has or employers have. For example, the problem my company facing is the shortage of employees. In order to solve this problem, she needed to keep current employees as well as hire more case manager. She has offered full time work from home to current employees so that the current employees can take more cases possible to relieve the shortage of employees. Also, she dealt with her boss to get more benefits in order to negotiate with interviewers. In addition, she has promoted a few senior employees with rewards. Moreover, she offered work from home to all employees, which looks like acting as Laissez-faire leadership. Working from home looks like give more freedom to employees. Actually, all employees need to physically active present online condition. Also we require to responding email or phone call within a certain time frame. The leader still tightly controls every employee. Therefore, as a

Leadership is defined as being a leader of an organization or a group of individuals. To me a leader is someone who will give their all to accommodate someone in obligation of assistance. A leader doesn’t give up on hard task and pushes to be an example for their peers. I have demonstrated my leadership in and out of school by being a responsible, honest and hardworking individual, who expresses empathy to help those who didn’t think they could achieve a goal on their own. While in high school I have been in multiple extracurricular activities such as Drill Team, FBLA, FCCLA, Student Council, Class Treasurer, NHS and Yearbook.…

Introduction Nursing is a profession within the health sector requiring inspiring role models and nurse leaders. Today's demanding healthcare society greatly challenges the Nursing boards and educational institutions to identify and develop capable nurse leaders. The description of leadership is very complex. Research conducted over the years concludes, no clear or constant definition or theory of leadership exists (Atsalos & Greenwood, 2001; Grossman & Valiga,2012; Mannix, Wilkes, & Daly, 2013, Josephine Scully N 2014). It is imperative that nursing professionals identify the leadership styles and theories relevant to their relevant practice.…

Emotional Intelligence is another topic I had heard of but not explored at any depth before this leadership class. Leadership requires the support and vision of the organization and creativity. A strong leader should have a high Emotional Intelligence (EI) factor for the staff to want to follow with his/her vision. If the culture is not where it needs to be leadership should first model the behaviors they wish to institute and then reinforce that behavior in others when observed. (Gokenbach,…

The word “leadership” brings to mind many different thoughts. On top of that, it could relate to varieties of topics, such as political leadership, community leadership, religious leadership, business leadership, etc. In my opinion, a great leader is always focused, willing for teamwork, have confidence, is inspired, have patience, is open-minded, and always strives for success. There are many examples in which great leadership is recognized, such as participating in college sports, being a student leader, and being a Christian leader. While one thinks of an individual as a leader, my philosophy of great leader is a person who sets direction, have long-term goals, have a vision, create new ideas, and helps him or herself as well as others to do right things.…

Growing up, I viewed leadership as something I would not be able to possess. I saw leaders around me and it felt as though they had endless grace, charisma, and enjoyed public speaking. As someone who processes internally and is more of an introvert, leadership felt like something I would witness from afar, not possess. However, over time I have been able to refine what it means to be a leader and eliminate the idea of leadership as exclusionary. For me, being a leader is not necessarily being the loudest voice heard but speaking and acting with intention, taking the time to build connections through empathy and belief in individual worth, and embracing the ordinary.…
