Over a period of one hundred years, the British Empire ruled over the Indian subcontinent in racially discriminatory, enslaving ways. Deprived of self-rule, the Indians formed groups and alliances in order to politically compromise with the British for Indian independence. In his attempts to rid India of British rule, freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose of Calcutta sacrificed his security and ultimately his life, refusing to compromise with the unjust ways of the Raj.

In 1941, though, when put under house-arrest for his nationalistic actions, Bose escaped from Calcutta in his car in order to reach Germany, sacrificing his life and freedom as he disguised himself to reach his destination. With Germany at its peak of power, Bose sacrificed his life to connect himself to Hitler. Immediately, assassination orders had been passed to all nations to shoot Bose on sight upon Bose’s threatening escape.
Additionally, Bose lost huge political power in India due to his conflicts and opposition with Gandhi’s ideology. Appreciating aspects of the new imperialists’ types of government, Bose was greatly despised by many for having associated himself with the Axis powers thoughts and practices against humanity, thereby sacrificing his political reputation within India for the sake of fulfilling his goals. Independence allowed Indians to opt for jobs in services and industry, rather than those related to agriculture. Growing industrially and technologically, Bose had ideas for India post-independence that served and directed it economically to ensure change and growth, such as industrialization, and a socialist government with several fascist aspects. Although he displayed connections with controversial figures in history, such as Hitler and Hideki Tojo, Bose’s strategies eventually paid for Indian freedom and the existence of a thriving culture and
