Differences In The United States

Kyle Lascano Psychology Chapter 4 Journal As developing adolescents progress in their growth towards striving and being productive for their societies, their future adult-selves may vary physiologically, cognitively, and morally. Depending on the culture they were exposed to, the possible results after adolescences will have major differences. I, myself, am a child that spent majority of his childhood in a culture that revolved around the Asian standards; however, certain circumstances have made it possible for me to live the rest of my adolescence in the United States of America. Although there are many similarities between the two aforementioned cultures, there are also key differences that I have perceived. A major difference pertains to driving. In the United States, it is possible to begin driving at the age of sixteen. This gives most teenagers here a sense of freedom and autonomy from their parents. In contrast, the Philippines does not allow sixteen year old to obtain their license until they are at the age of twenty-one. Because of this, most Filipinos do not leave the solace of their homes until the age of twenty-one.

Filipinos, because of tradition, do not leave their parental homes until they start a family (usually around twenty-one). Because of the difference, the United States has more autonomous individuals that seek to find their paths “my way.” In hindsight, Filipinos tend to stay and admire their parents until they leave the nest, but this comfort is returned by the child when the parents are not able to take care of themselves anymore. This explains why the Philippines have small amounts of nursing homes. Although both cultures create different individuals after adolescence, they benefit their societies in their own unique
