Sex Differences In Jealousy

As mentioned there are some major differences in males and females biologically that could possibly play a role as to the difference in the interruption of jealousy. The first major difference in the sexes is in the physical makeup of the male and female body. Women can become pregnant and carry a child as men are not. Because of this a woman can always be certain of who their child is according to evolutionary psychology men are not as fortune, Due to the uncertainty that comes with this the theory of fitness as brought up by Desteno and Salovey. The study examined the cheating from the two different types that have been found to be most prevalent which is the emotional and sexual aspects. This study used the social structure theory to base their experiment on. “The social structure theory states that most of the sex differences in mating preferences occur because most societies direct men into more advantaged social and economic positions compared to women” (Kennair& Norideide& Stronen,2011). This finding has implications that evolution theorist would stand behind. The reason for men being more bothered by sexual infidelity is due to the uncertainty of paternity for potential children. The findings from this study also found that men were more bothered by the status or the prestige of the person that their partner cheated with. I think this could be due to men knowing that more prestige could possibly mean more wealth and more of a chance for the other male to take
