This great family structure kept everyone in line with God and adultery or any kind of sexual sin was shunned severely. Which in the story a lot of these things fell through for the main character Hester she had sex outside her marriage and had a child to prove she had done so. Her mistress was a man that was weak and needed to be lead. According to the puritan belief he was suppose to be strong and hold the women up and Hester was suppose to be the weak one that cried at the flip of a hat. The one that sat home and didn’t go to work. Hester would work all around town making different clothing for the royal people.
