Different Gender, Both Humans
Since the time we are born or even since the time our parents know they having a boy or a girl, we are socialized into rules and what does it means to be a boy or a girl. The set of beliefs, norms and practices depends in the place we live. Our family, friends and the media around us it what shape our culture and through them we are socialized into society.
What is the first thing that comes in mind what a person thinks about a little girl? The color pink, dresses, flowers, make up, when she gets older marriage, having kids etc. Why it has to be like that? How it is that if a boy or a man can have a lot of girlfriends and he can even cheat on them and it is ok. He is being a man most people would say. However, if a girl is like that she is consider a slut. Girls has to dressed without showing too much just in case they do not are sexual harassed or in some cases raped. Do girls are the ones who need to protect themselves or boys should know how to behave? “We raise girls to see each other as competitors —not for jobs or for accomplishments, which I think can be a good thing, but for the attention of men. We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings in the way that boys are.” (Ngozi Adichie). I like this small excerpt from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s book we should all be Feminist because it emphasize in one thing that it is always happening. How girls compete about a guy, who is more beautiful or who has the best body. Women should fight about who is smarter, who is the next president or who represents women in politics. Meanwhile the only woman we see are the ones in the media that is the image that little girls have and they will be their role models instead of a strong smart woman. Most people would say I was normal a little chubby, but what does normal even mean? Girls who are bigger or smaller are not normal? I felt kind of pressure in high school because of this and also my family always tell me that I had to lose weight and that was every time. I lost weight, but not because I want to be perfect or want to be like celebrities it was because of health. Another thing was still bothering and it was that I did not have big breast. Almost a year ago when I was 17 years just about turning 18, I got a breast augmentation. I am really happy I feel more confident and I do not regret at all. However now that I think about it if small breast were the ones on the media maybe I would be happy with my breast. I mean it is all about the culture a person lives. In my country most girls has big breast, but in another places like Argentina or some countries in Europe girls do not care about
