Defining what American culture is today can be somewhat difficult in today’s society. American culture is always fluctuating. The United States has traditionally been referred to as a "melting pot," welcoming people from many different countries, and hoping to find a better means of life. My understanding of freedom has changed and deepened since the first days’ classes when taking notes on my individual freedom and societal freedom. Historical changes over time and specific events and developments such as the Colonial and Native American early period have fought, articulated, and transformed the freedom many have come to take as granted. This did however begin a pivotal moment in history that affected the Old and New World, with changes that are still current today. Along with the conquest of land the differing views of the Indians and Europeans opened different contradictory interpretations about freedom especially within religion, land use, and government.…

Southern culture is often very traditional and often places a lot of value on the family. When Katrina hit New Orleans and Mississippi, The people didn’t want to abandon their homes and families, but there were also other reasons. For one, some of the people in New Orleans especially had no way of actually evacuating. Either they heard the warning too late and were stuck or they didn’t have transport out of the city and the traffic was too much for them. In some cases, hospitals and nursing homes had no way to move all of the people staying there, so they were stranded when the storm hit.…

Gender in America are men can be women and women can be men, no boundaries and gay people are diversity. Women join the paid workforce, are the breadwinners or share it with their partners, also sharing of child care, household duties and food preparation, no depending on men. Understanding gender in other cultures makes me think of how different my culture really is compared to those four cultures because we don't take care of our men like these women of those four cultures do; they're pretty dedicated to their men. In my culture we're dedicated but we won't do everything like taking care of children, household duties and cooking, there's a line that we draw on when we've had enough of being taking advantage of. We will not take of things…
