Differences Between Yeh-Shen And Chinese Cinderella

Cinderella stories have changed over time due to the different cultures around the world. There are countless versions of the original story, all from different perspectives. Out of the many stories that I read, my favorites are the Chinese Cinderella and the French Cinderella. I like these because they are completely different from the original Cinderella story. In the Chinese Cinderella, the magic helper is the fish’s bones. However, in the French Cinderella, the magic helper is her godmother. These two stories have different magic helpers because they come from different places. Before Christianity came along, people believed in mythical creatures and gods. In Yeh-Shen, the golden fish helps her with whatever she desires. However, in Cinderella, the godmother doesn’t give her everything she wants, she just grants her wish to go to the ball. The French Cinderella is more like the original story. Yeh-Shen has a different plot, ending, and magic helper. The French Cinderella is a more classical version of the original. It has some differences, but I could tell what would happen next. Yeh-Shen however, I had never read and I didn’t know what was going to happen. It left me on a cliffhanger, wondering what would happen. In Cinderella (the French version), the stepmother and sisters tell her that she cannot go to the ball. The godmother shows that people used to worship gods and goddesses and they put their faith into them. Nowadays, 31 percent of the world follows Christianity. Christians believe in one God. In China however, some people worship mythical gods and creatures. They believe that magical creatures will help them later in life. Both stories reveal the religious factors of each
